Pet Portraits
I started these collages at the beginning of the coronavirus quarantine in March 2020. Working with dog and cat photos on my phone, I began collaging pet photos with found photographs of people from around the late 1800’s to early 1900’s. These new collages created fun pet portraits and I became obsessed with each image. Something about a cat or dog in a hat-it just makes you feel better. Then I started to get requests for commissions which helped me connect with others during the pandemic. People sent me photos of their pets and then I searched for the best 1890’s dress or suit that worked with their image.
The found portraits from the 1800-1900’s are great to use because many times the sitter is unknown as well as the photographer. It lends itself to collage because I can then create a narrative which will give new life to an old photograph. I ask pet owners to describe their cat or dog to help me select the perfect outfit.
Usually my work starts with a photograph which is digitally manipulated, collaged and then transferred using Dass Art medium.
Commissions will be done as a 5x7 photograph transferred to paper and then put into a 8x10 mat. Or the portrait could be transferred to a 8x10 wooden board. I do hope to increase the size of the images soon, so if you are looking for a larger image then please don’t hesitate to ask.

I search for an early 20th-century photo that will match your pet’s personality .
Tips on a great collaboration between you and me.
Select a high quality image that best describes your pet’s personality. Images should be in focus and not too much contrast. I will be editing and tweaking all photos so I will let you know if I can use the photo. Give me the name and sex of your pet (if that matters to you.) I can always put a male dog in a dress or a female cat in a suit if that is their personality. Also it would be great to get a few sentences letting me know some of your pet’s characteristics. A funny anecdote or quirky personality trait or even some of your family’s hobbies that would help me choose a found photograph. Sometimes there is a lot of back and forth between us to find the right look.

Allow 72 hours for a response with final contract and quote for approval. 50% of the artwork fee will be invoiced upon approval of the project. The Art Commission Form will remain active for 30 days after project approval. Deposits must be received within the 30 day time frame. Work will begin once the deposit is received.
